Bats falling from bridges

It's so hot here in Sacramento that bats fall from bridges. Ok, so I don't know if it's heat stroke or what but it was worth an article in the Bee. I'm the kind of person who loves heat. Even intense heat doesn't bother me which is one of the reason I love Africa so much. I would do about anything to not put the A.C. on. But, it needs to cool down at night because of course at some point when the temps haven't come down under 105 F for days and days it just becomes unbearable. Problem is I cannot sleep with the A.C. on. I have come a long ways since the first years I arrived in the U.S. when I was freezing all the time. I do mean shivering uncontrollably when shopping, couldn't stay at the bookstore for more than 15 mns without putting on a sweater, type of freezing. I still get a sore throat if I have to put on the A.C. at home.
Now the reality of living in the Sacramento valley is : it's going to get hot. Every single year. And it's not going to get any better. So my point is ( yes there is a point to this post, thank you to the poor souls who are still reading at this point): why do people here thinks it's ok to to mimic polar weather in Sacramento? I'll pass the obvious rant of " this is not good for the environment" type thing to the more terre a terre ( down to earth?) : if you don't train your body to accept temperature changes you become inflexible and ....fragile. The american people's need for "comfort" is so high nowadays that the image projected is that of immaturity. Except that I know that they are very mature in ways that the french people are not. So I don't think that's it... Is it just habit? The stores started it first and now everybody does it. You know like in restaurants: they give you huge portions and so you get into the habit of eating large portions without even really noticing it? Definitly happened to me.
Upside of not sleeping at night: I can read for hours uninterrupted. And this has been my guilty pleasure of the last 3 nights. Verdict: very good, you definitly don't get bored ;)

Annoying

All right I've had enough! I've been trying to make links about what I'm reading these days ( you can see it on the right) BUT I want the simple display with only the picture of the book. And it doesn't work. Nothing. I've tried everything I could think of and nothing. Would anybody by any chance, would have done this before and would have a clue? Please?

Welcome!

Welcome to Laurienna's blog grand opening!

Why a blog some people may ask? Well... a lot of different reasons really. First, I'm an avid blog reader and I wanted to try it too. I find it fascinating that everyday I can travel to France http://www.lataiedoreiller.blogspot.com/ or Japan http://www.u-blog.net/kioku and know a little bit of what is going on over there in everyday life. I'd also like to know some of you that have been writing to me over the years concerning jewelry a little better. And since I've been away from my birth country (France) and have lived in the US for 10 years (ok not quite but close enough) it'll probably be some sort of a journal too. It could be called something like "the triumphs and trials of living in another culture" mmmmm????? What do you mean it sounds melodramatic? Pffffff, mais pas du tout voyons!
Ok going back to work now... and with a heat of 108F in the shade. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it: ice cream first :)
